Stephanie Cagniart represents clients in a broad range of complex litigation matters such as contract and fraud cases, constitutional and statutory-interpretation disputes, and general commercial litigation. Over the course of her career she has handled numerous appeals in state and federal courts, including before the Texas Supreme Court, state appellate courts, multiple United States Courts of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Stephanie has also represented clients in state and federal trial courts, and she draws on that experience when advising trial lawyers as an appellate attorney.

Before joining Alexander Dubose & Jefferson, Stephanie was a litigation partner at a large international law firm working on high-stakes business disputes. She was also a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas, where she handled criminal appeals raising novel statutory and constitutional issues. She clerked for the Honorable Patrick E. Higginbotham on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and has served on the faculties of the University of Virginia School of Law and The University of Texas at Austin School of Law. She is an elected member of the American Law Institute and a board member of the Bar Association for the Fifth Federal Circuit.

Stephanie’s experience and the results she obtains for her clients have led to numerous recognitions. She has been named as “Up and Coming” in Texas-Litigation-Appellate by Chambers USA, a “Rising Star” in appellate litigation by Texas Super Lawyer (Thomson Reuters), a “Next Generation Partner” and “Rising Star” in Dispute Resolution: General Commercial Disputes by The Legal 500 U.S., and a “Top Woman Attorney in Texas, Rising Star” in appellate litigation in by Texas Monthly.

Stephanie was raised in Paris, France, and is a native speaker of both French and English. As an undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Austin, she won four national championships in public speaking. She earned her law degree and completed her master’s thesis in legal and political history under advisors Peter Onuf and Charles McCurdy at the University of Virginia.
